Comemorado desde 2009, em 29 de junho, o Dia do Pescador ressalta a importância de conscientizar aqueles que dependem do mar de que preservá-lo limpo pode ser mais vantajoso do que negligenciar o perigo representado pelo acúmulo de detritos, prejudicando, dessa forma, a fauna, a flora e a saúde.
Por isso, o projeto PSA Mar Sem Lixo, uma iniciativa da Secretaria de Meio Ambiente, Infraestrutura e Logística (Semil), por meio da Fundação Florestal (FF), incentiva à remoção de resíduos sólidos do ambiente marinho capturados acidentalmente durante a atividade de pesca artesanal, compensando os pescadores pelo serviço ambiental.
A ação, que faz parte do Plano Estadual de Meio Ambiente, estipula remuneração por meio de cartão-alimentação, com valores de até R$ 600, destinados aos pescadores que operam nos municípios de Cananéia, Itanhaém e Ubatuba, abrangendo as Áreas de Proteção Ambiental – APAs Marítimas, do Litoral Sul, Litoral Centro e Litoral Norte. Nos primeiros oito meses de implementação do PSA Mar Sem Lixo, 73 pescadores recolheram mais de duas toneladas de lixo marinho.
“Por meio do programa criamos mecanismos de incentivo e condições para a melhoria ambiental da nossa zona costeira. Com isso, damos mais um passo para preservação dos nossos ecossistemas marinhos, integrando educação ambiental, proteção da fauna e flora, além de gerar um benefício social e econômico aos pescadores”, pontuou a secretária de Meio Ambiente, Infraestrutura e Logística, Natália Resende.
Além dos danos ao meio ambiente, o lixo no mar causa, também, riscos à saúde, devido à liberação de substâncias químicas que acabam se acumulando progressivamente nas cadeias alimentares, contaminando mexilhões, ostras e outros animais, que são consumidos pelo homem.
Dentre os materiais frequentemente encontrados, 90,7% consistem em plásticos, correspondendo, em massa, a 70% do peso recolhido. Entre os itens estão sacolas de mercado e embalagens. Além disso, também são frequentemente coletados latas de bebidas, vidros, pneus e tecidos.
Participam do projeto como parceiros o Instituto Oceanográfico da Universidade de São Paulo, o Instituto de Pesquisas Ambientais (IPA), a Companhia Ambiental do Estado de São Paulo (Cetesb), a Coordenadoria de Educação Ambiental (CEA), bem como colônias, associações de pescadores e cooperativas de catadores.
Novos cadastros
No último mês a Fundação Florestal reabriu o processo para cadastramento de novos pescadores. Os interessados em participar devem se cadastrar junto às APAs Marinhas ou por meio do link: https://tinyurl.com/psamarsemlixo. O chamamento permanecerá aberto até dezembro de 2023.
Tipos de pesca
Pescadores que vivem de sua própria produção são bastante comuns em um país com milhares de quilômetros de litoral, rios e lagos. Mas a poluição tornou-se uma ameaça real à subsistência. Segundo a Associação Internacional de Resíduos Sólidos, cerca de 25 milhões de toneladas de lixo são despejadas nos oceanos todo ano, metade de plásticos. Com o tempo, esse material tende a se concentrar e a formar manchas como a “ilha de lixo” do Oceano Pacífico, atualmente com 1,6 milhão de metros quadrados.
Atualmente no Brasil existem três tipos de pesca: a artesanal, de mão de obra familiar, com área de atuação nas proximidades da costa, rios e lagos, responsável pelo abastecimento do mercado interno, geralmente da comunidade local; a industrial, voltada à exportação, com mais tecnologia e barcos mais equipados, associada à pesca longínqua ou à pesca costeira de campanhas longas; e a pesca esportiva/amadora, em que se pratica como atividade de lazer.
